The Enemy is Coming
A downloadable game
A 1-bit sniper-defense game for Playdate. Look down the scope, crank through depth, and hold the line.
You are the last gun on the ridge. Through your scope the field stretches away in depth frames — far, then nearer, then right on top of you. Enemies advance frame by frame: foot soldiers, trucks, tanks. Crank to change which distance you're focused on, aim with the d-pad, and fire. You can only hit what's on the frame you're looking at — so every second is scan a distance, pick a target, fire, re-scan. Let too many slip through and they breach your defense line. Hold out as long as you can.
It's tense, readable, and built for the crank.
How it plays
- 🎯 Crank = depth. Roll the crank to focus nearer or farther frames.
- ➕ D-pad = aim, A = fire. A quick tap is precise; hold to sweep fast.
- 💀 Clear enemies before they march through all five frames and breach the line.
- ♿ Crank-free too — a buttons-only control scheme is one toggle away.
Features
- Pure 1-bit — stark black & white, made for the Playdate screen.
- Depth-frame sniping you won't find elsewhere — distance is the core mechanic, not a backdrop.
- Escalating pressure — spawns ramp, mini-bosses roll in from wave 4, and enemy paratroopers drop behind you if you camp one distance.
- One gun that grows with you — no loadouts, no menus: hit score milestones and your machine gun upgrades itself, MK II → MK III → MK IV. Pick-up-and-play in seconds.
- Kill-chain combos — quick kills across different distances multiply your score up to ×5. Camping one frame caps you.
- Medals & a survival score that reward reading the field, not just twitch aim — and death drops you straight back in (Ⓑ to redeploy).
- Global leaderboard — enter your initials and climb the worldwide board (online; plays fully offline too).
Requires a Playdate (sideload)
This is a sideloaded game for the Playdate handheld. After purchase, upload the included .pdx to your Playdate from your play.date account's Sideload page, and it appears on your device. (It does not run on PC/Mac/phone — you need a Playdate console.)
Privacy
The global leaderboard stores only the name you type in and your run stats (score, waves, kills, medals). No device IDs, no IP addresses, nothing else. Don't want to take part? The board is optional — the game is fully playable offline.
